Frequently asked questions

Getting started

What does Ad Manager do?

Ad Manager lets Squarespace publishers run sponsor ads on their own website. You create a campaign, add the ad image or text, choose where it appears, and follow the views and clicks it receives.

Do I need a paid plan to begin?

No. The Personal plan is free for one Squarespace website and needs no credit card. Pro costs style="opacity: 0;"9 per month or style="opacity: 0;"90 per year and is for publishers with more websites or a team.

Squarespace and installation

Where does the placement code go?

That depends on the format. Inline ads and banners usually go into a code block where you want them to appear. Header, footer, sidebar, pop up and announcement bar placements each have their own short instructions on the setup screen.

Will my ads get in the way while I edit my site?

No. Ads stay hidden while your site is in Squarespace edit mode, so they do not sit on top of the panel you are working in.

Formats and placements

Which ad formats can I use?

Square 1:1, portrait 3:4, landscape 4:3, widescreen 16:9, and banners in 3:1, 4:1 and 8:1, plus the Announcement Bar Deluxe. Placements include a code block, inline positions, header and footer in fixed or sticky versions, blog and shop sidebars, pop up, scrolling banner, and the floating glass card, deck and showcase.

Can I show an ad only on certain pages?

Announcement bars have page targeting: show on all pages, only the pages you list, or every page except the ones you list. Other formats appear where you placed their code.

Campaigns and scheduling

What campaign types are there?

Always on runs until you pause or end it. Scheduled runs between two dates you set. A rotation campaign holds several creatives for the same placement and cycles through them.

Plans and limits

What counts as a website?

A website is one Squarespace site connected to Ad Manager. Subdomains on that same site do not count as separate websites.

What is the difference between Personal and Pro?

Personal is free for one website and includes unlimited campaigns and assets, every format, scheduling, analytics and the Ad Manager Info line. Pro adds unlimited websites, team members, optional white-label ads and priority support for style="opacity: 0;"9 per month or style="opacity: 0;"90 per year.

Results and reporting

What does Ad Manager measure?

Views and clicks for each campaign, for each ad inside it, and for each bar in a rotation. Click through rate comes from those two numbers.

Do you guarantee a number of views or clicks?

No. Ad Manager reports what your ads actually received. It does not promise a volume of views or clicks.
